Rebecca Explains 3 is a video from the Rebecca Explains series created by Rebecca Parham.

Synopsis[]

Rebecca answers a few comments, mainly the one about what's her favorite animated movie.

Comments and Explanations[]

Comments Explanations
A person asked what's the software she uses and how much do they all cost.

EXPLANATION: She uses Photoshop, Flash, Premiere and multiple Adobe products, as her software. Adobe has made a creative cloud so that one can buy their products for a low price. The hardware that she uses is the Cintuq tablet, which is a portable desktop/tablet in which an animator or an artist draws on with a stylus. They are going to cost in total around 2000$-2700$. Though, another option is using a Wacom tablet, which is a little bit cheaper. She would've gotten that tablet if there was Photoshop and Adobe Flash with it.

SUMMARY: She uses Photoshop, Flash, Premiere and Adobe products. She also uses a Cintiq tablet, and all around, they are expensive for an average consumer.

A person asked if she was acting as Annoying Orange. No. DaneBoe created it.
A person asked what do they know now that they wish they knew before.

EXPLANATION: She wished she knew how much work it was gonna be. Before going to Ringling, she wasn't the hardest-working student. She had to do things by the last second. Animation comes with a lot of motivation and self-discipline.

SUMMARY: Basically, she wished to know about a lot of things before, especially about work.

Somebody asked if one needs a background in animation to get a job about story writing or one needs to simply be a writer.

EXPLANATION: Since she is all about animation and not storytelling/storywriting (despite the fact that she has animated stories), but in animation, one may need a background in animation for one to be considered for a screenwriting gig. One can also do storytelling without a background in animation.

SUMMARY: One may somewhat need a background in animation for storywriting, especially if they may need to animate. Though, it is advised to storyboard.

A person asked how many years one would need to be in art school to enter a top-notch animation studio. EXPLANATION: Technically, one does not need to go to an art school to enter a top-notch studio. Studio recruiters will not care about the school one went to, it's about what they can do. In an art school, one needs a very high quality portfolio, a demo reel etc. Though, some recruiters may care about the school one went to because it's like an insurance policy (for example: "This person went to Ringling, so they can make 3D animation."). Others would like, for example, a portfolio, but don't care about it.

SUMMARY: One can research they need to go to and figure out their timeline.

Somebody said that they want to work at Cartoon Network, but they have a problem: They can't afford to go to an art school. Their style is Japanese animation. They asked if they could be accepted for the job.

EXPLANATION: If one does only Japanese animation, they are not going to be hired on Cartoon Network to make it in the American animation industry. One needs to be able to draw, needs to do many American cartoon styles and not just Japanese animation. Art schools require a portfolio and not Japanese animation. One needs to do prove that they can do more than just Japanese animation. One, for example, may need to be a character designer over at Disney when the only animation style they know is Butch Hartman.

SUMMARY: One won't be accepted if all they do is Japanese animation, at least they won't be accepted into Cartoon Network or other American animation industry. Though, they will need to learn a different style to be in one.

A person asked what is her favorite animated movie. Her favorite movie is Monsters.
